RED BARN AT BOX STALLION

A real surprise to discover Red Barn. Charming greeting on arrival, charming waitress – owner offering to move the heater to make us more comfortable. Nice gesture to give us a tasting of his wines.

Very fresh cooking – guests get the impression it is all freshly cooked for them. Pleasure to hear most of the vegetables come from their own garden. Excellent home-made ravioli. Copious and flavoursome lamb dish – although it said with harissa, so don't be afraid to make it noticeable when it is written into the dish (it was under-spiced). Cheese platter was very fresh and nicely presented with cheeses in prime condition. Tart pastry and custard a little tired, but the fresh cooked quinces and the presentation nice. Also a pleasure to see the wine at cellar door prices.

Very personal service; very good value pricewise. Perhaps the judge's suprise of the competition; we will return.

*Perhaps a little attention to the sign at the entry of the winery... Box Stallion stands out better than Red Barn and people have to know they're going to Box Stallion or easy to go past.
