Staff ProfileAlex White (Winemaker) Alex is one of Australia's well known and highly regarded winemakers. The cellar of wines created during his career is impressive, including those made whilst Chief Executive and winemaker of Lilydale Estate Vineyard, 1982 to 1994. Other highlights include winemaking and/or consulting to St. Huberts, Port Phillip Estate, Plunkett Winery, Moorooduc Estate, Mount Avoca and Lost Valley Estate. Alex's services as an Oenological consultant are widely sought and his manages a demanding calendar of wine judging commitments around Australia. Qualifications:
Email Address. alex@boxstallion.com.au Garry John Zerbe (Partner/CEO) Batting just over a half century, Garry has spent his youth at the coalface of the family orchardist business. Well known and regarded as a tireless worker, he forms the glue that sticks the various parts of the Box Stallion operation together. The name Zerbe originated in Prussia from where the family emigrated to establish Orchards in Doncaster in 1853. The family Orchards expanded to Bittern and Red Hill during the mid 1900's and in 1974 Garry assumed responsibility for running the business during which time he established the status of 'preferred apple supplier' to Coles Supermarkets. From 1997 Garry was employed full-time managing both his own and numerous Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley vineyards as contractor and consultant, prior to establishing a partnership with the Wharton family to develop Box Stallion. Today you will find Garry contributing to all aspects of the business from lending a hand to pruning, a willing cellar rat, greeting the guests at Cellar Door, as well as the overall management of Box Stallion. Email Address. garry@boxstallion.com.au Matthew Zerbe (Marketing and Sales) Since completing an Associate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at RMIT in 1994, Matthew has worked primarily in the family business. His wine industry career commenced in the workshop, building and fixing vineyard equipment and developing innovative solutions to agricultural challenges. Matthew was responsible for managing much of the vineyard development and installations at both of Box Stallion's sites, whilst undertaking a number of wine appreciation and wine marketing courses. For the 2001 vintage Matthew studied Food Processing - Wine at Dookie and spent the year working in the winery. For the last six years Matthew has spent most of his time doing the never - ending task of Marketing and Logistics.
